Domain Name verses Hosting of Website
March 21, 2013

One of the frequent questions we get by new clients is the difference between a domain name and the actual hosting of the website. Most people would think that these two items are one in the same, when actually they are two separate items of your website.

The domain name is just the “name” of the website you are using (productiveit.com), and you can have several “names” going to the same site (productiveit.com, productiveitllc.com, productiveit.net).

Your website hosting is the actual server location that your site files, tools and database are located.

For instance, your home might be called a home, house and estate—all different “names” for one building—but your house is always one building in one location. You can move your home’s contents from one building to another, and it will still be called your home, house and estate, but be at a different location. The same applies for moving your website content to a new host.

Productive I.T. can host your website home and decorate it how you like. We can move your content for you and give your web presence a new home with us. Call us today and we can walk you through how the process works!
